Anchor with pink roses and blue flowers on forearm
Traditional · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A black linework anchor wrapped in rope sits centrally on the forearm, with pink roses and blue flowers and leaves clustered around the crown and shank. The anchor is drawn with fine outlines and hatched shading, while the flowers are softly shaded in pink and blue wash. The skin tone and a blurred, colourful background frame the design in a soft, even photograph.

Dear Kenny,

The lift has been out since Tuesday, so I've been carrying compost up fourteen flights like a sherpa with a grudge. Mrs Okafor on eleven says the lads from the estate office will fix it once the football's finished, which means never. Still, the roses came up from the bags you sent. Three of them, pink as a cheap sweet, and they've climbed the railing outside the kitchen window as if they own the place.
I tied the canes to the rail with the old mooring line Dad kept under the stairs, the one he swore came off the Ellen Mary. It's stiff and still smells of tar. Every morning I look at it and think of him saying a rope never forgets the shape of the boat it held. Cornflowers have come up between the pots too, the blue ones Gran used to press in her Bible, and I've let them stay.
Mr Pryce from the council came round with a clipboard about the balcony planters. Said they're a hazard in a wind. I told him I'd take them in when the wind took me first. He looked at the anchor-shaped stain you left on the wall in 1998 and didn't say anything else, which I counted as a win.
Write back soon and tell me the Gulf is still hot enough to fry an egg on the deck. I'll keep the roses watered and the rope where you can see it from the lift, when it finally works. Mind your hands on the winch.
Love, Pat
