Batman logo fading into Joker laughter
Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A solid black bat symbol sits on the left side of the arm, with its edge softened into a gradient that blends into scattered red handwritten HAHA lettering to the right. The black areas use smooth, dense shading, while the red lines are thin and loose, with a small red triangle below the bat. The image is a close, evenly lit photo against a plain light background, with the colour contrast between the black and red as the main focus.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Sit yourselves down, the lot of you, and mind the squeaky chair by the urn. Thirty-one years ago, behind the bike shed at Hollin Lane Juniors, somebody chalked a bat on the wall. Nobody owned up. Mr Pell went at it with a wet duster, and it came back grey and stubborn, a black hook of a shape with wings that dropped away at the tips like a torn umbrella.

The next morning, beneath it, someone had written HA in red wax crayon, then HAHA, then a whole crowd of them, leaning and scribbled, as if the noise had been pushed through a letterbox. Ruth Garside swore blind it wasn't her. Ruth had a grin like a split melon and was the worst liar in the school. Pell kept the duster going for a week. Every time the wall dried, the laughter came back redder, until Mr Vosper, the caretaker, sat down on an upturned bucket and said the wall had won.
Most people stop the story there, but Vosper's granddaughter told me something else at a christening in 2009. She said her grandad kept a stub of red crayon in his tin, and that on the last afternoon before the bike shed came down, he found one more mark pressed into the brick below the bat, a small triangle pointing down like an arrow at a door. He never said who drew it. He just put the stub back in his tin, locked the shed, and went home for his tea.
