Black and grey sleeve with panther and roses

Neo-trad · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo

A person seen from behind wears a dark t-shirt and high-waisted jeans while showing a tattooed arm sleeve. The main arm features a panther head with bared teeth, large flowers, a rose, a small heart, an eye and a partly visible word, all rendered in black ink with grey shading. A smaller rose tattoo is visible on the other arm, and the monochrome photograph has a dark wooden backdrop.

It was not a big cat, as panthers go, and it was not a real one either, for it had the look of a thing drawn in ink and then let loose. Its teeth were bared. Her late husband had always said the rose on the lamppost by the bins was a liar, that it bloomed in February only to spite the council. Now there were dozens of them, and a painted eye watching from the back of a door.

She opened the door. The panther looked at her for a long while, then turned and went back down the stairs, slow, leaving the roses to close behind it one by one. In the morning the lift was working and the lamppost was bare, and on the wall beside the lift, scratched into the paint in letters as thick as a thumb, was a single word: GO ON.
