Doctor Who monsters and TARDIS on a calf
Other · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a Cyberman standing above a Dalek and a blue police box, with a crouched weeping angel with its face covered at the bottom of the design. It is drawn in a single black outline with no shading or fill visible, and the lines look fresh or possibly in progress. The composition is centred on the calf, with the figures stacked vertically and the design filling most of the leg.

Sit nearer the stove, the lot of you, and leave the lamp alone. Aye, that's it. The lamp is what keeps the thing on the rocks from finding its way up the stair, and you'll mind that when you're keeping the light yourselves.

The winter the blue box washed up on Carrick Skerry, my grandfather rowed out to it with a can of paraffin and a pencil behind his ear. It sat there wrong, a tall cabinet with a lamp on its roof that burned sideways. When he knocked, the door swung open and out stepped a man with a chest like a boiler and a face of polished tin. Behind him came a squat brass pepperpot on a spring arm, clicking its tongue at the sea. At the foot of the ladder crouched a stone thing with both hands over its face. The pepperpot told him: never look away from that one, not once, or it will be at your back before you know it.
So he sat on the gallery all night with his eyes fixed on the stone thing, while the tin man and the pepperpot argued over the mantle. Every hour the fingers parted a crack, and every hour he set his jaw and did not blink. The tin man said the light had been out of true since the day it was built. The pepperpot said it had been out of true since before that.
When the sun cleared the headland, the blue box was gone. The stone thing lay on the rocks with its face to the water and its hands open in its lap. The lamp burned straight. And on the whitewash beside the door, in one black line, someone had drawn the three of them standing in a row, and the line was still wet.
