Kustom Way of Life skull and pin-up flash sheet

Dotwork · Black and grey · Flash

A black and white illustration of a horned skull beneath a banner reading Kustom Way of Life, surrounded by a pin-up woman, a fuel can labelled Fuel, a spark plug, an eyeball, wings and a cloud of stars. The linework is bold and outlined, with stippled dotwork shading across the skull, engine parts and background. The composition fills the frame edge to edge, with a red border around the sheet.

The skull's still on the back of Eddie's jacket. He had the parlour in Luton do it after the Whit fair, though I told him it looked like a funeral wreath. He says the banner's from a magazine, Kustom Way of Life, and that the fellas in Dagenham all wear it. Maybe. Mostly I think he likes the pin-up, who looks a bit like the girl at the bakers, though he'd never say so to her face.

Something happened Saturday I want to tell you about. We got the old can out of the back shed, the one Dad stamped FUEL in red, and Eddie sparked a plug on the test bench just to see. The whole shed went white for a second and then smelt of burnt hair. Nobody was hurt. Mrs Cole's cat was on the roof for an hour after, and she still blames us.

The wireless says the Ford's plates come through in March. Come home for the run to the coast if you can. Bring that stupid trumpet. Ray
