Never Grow Up infinity design with flying silhouettes
Black and grey · Flash
A black silhouette design on a white background shows two flying figures and a smaller figure, set along an infinity symbol. The words NEVER and GROW UP run through the loops of the symbol, with dots and five-pointed stars scattered around the outline. The design uses solid black shapes with no shading and is centred in a wide, horizontal composition.

Dear Nell, the wind has finally dropped, so I'm writing this on the back of a fish-market invoice while the Morning Star idles off Whitby. You'll laugh, but Tommy Ash swears he saw three of them again last night, flying low over the wheelhouse, two grown and one no bigger than a gull. He said the smallest one had a bit of cord trailing behind it, like a kite. I told him it was moonlight on the spray.

The skipper reckons we've been working the same stretch of sea for a fortnight, tracing a loop on the chart like a figure eight lying on its side. Every haul comes up with the same things: a cod, a crab pot, a bottle with a note in a hand nobody can read. Nobody's complained, mostly because the stars have been bright enough to steer by, and the glitter in the water follows the hull like a string of beads.
Last night I asked the boy whether he wanted to go home. He said he'd tell me when he'd finished growing, then laughed the way you laugh at a joke you've heard too many times. I thought of you at eleven, standing on the harbour wall, swearing you'd never be the one who came in.
When we're back on the twelfth I'll bring you a stone with a hole through it, the sort Grandad hung on the nets for luck. Keep the lamp lit on the sill. If the wind's from the west, look up. I'll be the one going round.
