Peacock and rose tattoo on the thigh
Neo-trad · Thigh · Colour · Photo
A bold peacock with a raised head and fanned tail feathers sits beside a red rose, small red and orange flowers, and dark green leaves. The linework is thick and dark, with solid fills in green, teal, purple, orange and yellow and touches of yellow dots along the tail. The design is arranged diagonally down the thigh, with the bird's head near the top and the tail feathers trailing towards the knee.

Nobody remembers who brought her. Some say a signalman's widow came back from India with a crate and a grudge against the weather. What everyone agreed on was that she would not be penned. She roosted on the canopy beams and screamed at the milk train, and every morning she fanned that tail across the timetable board as if she were the one who set the times.
The stationmaster, Albert Pim, loved her more than he loved his wife, and his wife never forgave him for it. When a summer gale flattened the rose bushes by the ticket hut, Albert replanted them himself, red ones, the stubborn kind, and the peacock took to sitting in them at dusk with her head raised like a clerk checking a list. He swore she was counting the passengers. Maybe she was. The night the last steam train came through, she spread every eye she had, and the driver, who had not looked up at a platform in twenty years, stopped the engine to watch.
They say the roses are still there, if you know where the railings used to be. Drink your tea. The next train is always the one you don't expect.
