Playing cards and dice with Roll With It lettering
Realism · Ribs · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows a fanned hand of playing cards, including the jack, queen, king and ace of hearts, with a patterned card back on the left. Two red dice with black pips sit below, set against swirling blue water, and the words ROLL WITH IT run along the bottom in bold black lettering. The shading is smooth and dimensional, with strong highlights on the dice and cards.

The marquee had gone quiet by half past ten, which meant the older uncles had found the card table behind the coat rack. Maureen Fenn dealt with the flat of her hand, the way she had dealt blackjack in a Blackpool club for thirty years, and she did not look up when her new son-in-law pulled out a chair with his tie already loose. Tom had drunk enough to be brave and not enough to be sensible. He put his father's gold watch on the baize beside a fistful of creased fivers.

The hand she dealt him was four hearts running from the jack to the ace, the ten missing like a tooth. Maureen tapped the table twice with a manicured nail. "Ten always wanders off at weddings," she said. "Ask the bride's mother." Across from him, Uncle Frank folded with a groan and reached for the dice she kept in a biscuit tin, two red ones worn smooth at the corners. The rule, she explained, was simple. A broken hand gets one throw of the dice, and whatever comes up is the card you've been missing.
Tom rolled them across the tablecloth, past a bowl of pistachios and a half-eaten slice of cake. They tumbled, knocked against a glass, and settled on a four and a six. Maureen laughed so hard she had to wipe her eyes with a paper napkin. "There's your ten, son. Ten pips and a bit of nerve." She slid the watch back across the table without taking a penny of it.
The bride appeared in the doorway with her shoes in one hand and her veil crooked. "Are you lot gambling at my wedding?" Tom stood up, took the dice from the table and pressed them into her palm. "Roll with it, love," he said, and she did.
