Skull with roses and compass design

Dotwork · Colour · Flash

A skull sits at the centre, with a compass rose on its forehead, diamonds set in the eye sockets and roses and flowers framing it on both sides. Shading is built from fine dots and stipple, with a beaded chain hanging beneath a ribbon banner at the base. The drawing uses peach and cream tones on a deep teal-blue background, with a symmetrical composition.

He laughed, then stopped when she didn't. She wrote the ticket anyway, because the rules said so, and because the compass was pointing straight at the back door, where the bolt had stuck since March. When she slid the skull into the safe, the beaded chain beneath its ribbon chimed against the steel, and the diamonds caught the light from the street lamp, and for one moment she could have sworn the north on the brow had moved.
