Stormtrooper with sugar skull face and roses on forearm
Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo
The tattoo shows a stormtrooper helmet with red sugar skull face markings, topped by a red rose, with a black Imperial emblem above and a yellow crescent moon to the right. A teal rose with orange-yellow centre and green leaves sits at the lower part of the design. The bold black outlines and flat, saturated fills are shown in three side-by-side views of the same forearm.

Dear Tomas, the ram got into the turnip clamp again, so your grandad has been stamping about in wellies three sizes too big since Tuesday, swearing at the frost. The helmet you left on the windowsill is still there. I moved it to the dresser because the cat kept sitting in it and your grandad said it looked like a bucket with ideas.

I'll admit the red markings you painted on the cheeks have grown on me. Your mum said they looked like a dead woman's make-up, which is exactly what you wanted, and you told her it was for the day when everyone takes their grandmother's photograph out of the drawer and makes a fuss of her. I said that was a fine way to remember anyone. The rose on top is the same red as the nail varnish you borrowed, and the teal one with the orange middle is the cutting from the back of the greenhouse that never flowered until you took it to Bristol. Is it still alive? Don't let it sit in a flat with no light.
Last night the moon came up over the top field, a thin yellow paring, and the old wind pump stood black under it like a cog somebody had forgotten to fit. I stood at the gate with the torch for much longer than the cold deserved. The sheep were breathing in the shed and the frost was coming up white on the gatepost, one ring at a time.
Come home for the lambing if you can. Bring the paints and leave the varnish. The helmet's waiting on the dresser, and so am I, with the kettle on.
Love, Nan
