Afro figure with finger to lips on upper back
Back · Black and grey · Photo
A black and grey tattoo shows a topless woman with a full afro, one finger raised to her lips in a hushing gesture and a flower held low at her front. The figure is outlined with bold, solid linework and soft grey shading fills the hair and body, with dark ink tapering down below the flower. The photo is taken from behind, so the tattooed upper back and shoulder blade sit in the foreground against a dark wall hanging, with the wearer's curly hair pulled over one shoulder.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The function room above the Crown smelled of carpet cleaner and warm sausage rolls, and Odette Greaves had been standing by the urn for twenty minutes, waiting for someone to mention Mr Pell. Forty-one people from Year Eleven had come back to Hallam Road Comprehensive, most of them wearing the same careful expression, the look of people who had not expected to remember so much.

Then Dennis Fairclough tapped a fork against a pint glass and began his speech, and the whole room leaned toward him like sunflowers. Odette lifted one finger to her lips. It was an old habit from the back row, where she had silenced thirty-odd teenagers with nothing but that gesture, and it still worked. Dennis faltered, looked straight at her, and laughed. "Go on then, Odette. You never let anyone finish a sentence."
She didn't answer. She crossed to the window, where the car park lamps had come on, and watched the Harrogate coach idle with its doors open. In her handbag was a small notebook she had kept since 1991, every rumour, borrowed pen and broken promise she'd overheard in those corridors. She had never read a single line of it aloud, and she had never once thrown it away.
Dennis was still talking, so she walked back to the urn, took the notebook from her bag, and dropped it into the bin beside the sausage rolls. Halfway through his sentence the room went quiet. Forty-one people had spent thirty years wondering what she knew, and tonight, for once, she let them keep wondering.
