Black script lettering with flourishes across the lower
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A photograph of black script lettering with decorative flourishes that spans the width of the lower abdomen, shown in a social media screenshot with a short caption above it. The letters are bold and angular with thick and thin strokes, and the swashes extend out at each end of the phrase. The image is entirely black ink on skin, with no colour, and the tattoo sits above dark clothing and a metal fastening.

Pull your stools nearer the grate, the lot of you, for the frost is coming off the top field and it has teeth tonight. This is the tale of the winter the Pennock boys were snowed in at Hollin Farm for nine days with a barrel of cider, a sack of turnips and nothing to do but quarrel.

Young Eli Pennock swore on his mother's bread knife that he could write the daftest line ever seen on a barn wall, one that would have the vicar blushing on Sunday. So he took a lump of soot, a dab of lamp oil and his grandfather's good brush, and by lantern light he painted across the cattle shed boards in fancy looping letters: Kiss Me Where I Pee. Then he went off to bed as pleased as a cat with a robin.
Ada Pennock rose at first light to milk the cows, read it with her candle held high, and dropped the pail so hard the cat leapt into the hayloft. She didn't scold him. She fetched the gold leaf from the parlour cabinet, went over every stroke with a steady hand, and left a note on the kitchen table: Finish what you start, and mind the flourish on the K.
The boys argued for a week over whose letters were the wobbliest. Nobody ever settled it, and the shed still stands with that gilt-edged line across its boards, catching the low winter sun. Every January when the snow comes, Eli stands in front of it and tells anyone passing that his mother has never once been able to resist a good flourish.
