Buffy the Vampire Slayer lettering on thigh
Lettering · Thigh · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo on the outer thigh shows a large red silhouette of a figure beside a black circle with a grey crescent detail. Below, the words Death is my gift and Buffy the Vampire Slayer are set in red and black lettering, with small red specks scattered around the design. The ink is a mix of red and black on bare skin, with a denim edge and a plain background at the top of the frame.

The gate of Corrie Keep has been chained since the flood took the lower bailey, but you climb the wet steps anyway, torch clenched in your teeth and a stake wrapped in oilcloth under one arm. Below, the valley lies grey with rain. Tamsin Rowe, who keeps the chapel key, swore that something in the crypt had been taking the shepherds' dogs. You told her you would have a look before the light went.

The crypt smelled of wet lime and something sweeter underneath. Three of them rose from the cracked flags as you came down, faces pale as candle wax, moving like people who had forgotten how to hurry. You counted them by the scrape of their feet, the way your mother taught you. Red dust drifted through a broken window, and when the first one lunged, the last of the moon caught your blade and threw a sharp black shadow across the wall.
Afterwards you sat on the altar step with your back to cold stone while the torch guttered out. Tamsin came down with a lamp and a flask of tea and did not ask. 'Did they go quiet?' she said at last. You nodded. Her grandfather used to say that a slayer's whole trade was knowing when to stop being frightened and start being useful, and you had never once managed the first part.
At dawn you wiped the steel and wrapped it again, and found red specks across your sleeve like sparks from a forge. Tamsin was waiting at the gate with the chain in her hands. 'Is it over?' she asked. You told her it was over until the next dark, and you climbed toward the ridge with the moon still pale above it, a thin black crescent you could have drawn with your eyes shut.
