Bumblebee pen drawing on peach paper
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
A detailed bumblebee is drawn in the centre of the sheet, seen from above with its wings spread and two curved antennae. The body is shaded with dense, short pen strokes that build the fur texture and two pale bands across the abdomen, while the wings are outlined with fine veins. The image is in black ink on a textured, warm peach paper, with the insect placed alone in open space.

Her brother Tom was already rolling up the order of service. 'Don't you dare,' she said. 'It's a bee, Tom, not a wasp.' 'It's a bee on the bloody cake. Mags, the vicar's wife is coming.' Irene, the groom's grandmother, in a hat the colour of custard, watched the whole business over her teacup and said her Arthur had always reckoned bees were the only honest guests, because they came for the nectar and never pretended otherwise.
Marguerite crouched on the cut grass in her borrowed heels, slipped off one shoe, and laid her palm flat beside the stand. She waited while the bee walked the length of her fingers, pausing at each knuckle as if checking the seams. Then it lifted, circled her head once, and sailed off over the marquee roof toward the orchard, where the apple blossom had gone over in the spring rain.
When Daniel came looking for her with two glasses of cider, the cake was whole and the table was quiet. She took one glass and said nothing about the bee. Only a thin gold line of pollen remained on the knife, and later, when the speeches were done, she licked it from her thumb and laughed until Tom asked what on earth was so funny.
