CASH lettering and guitar on chest
Lettering · Chest · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows the word CASH in ornate, shaded block letters, with the neck of an acoustic guitar running up through the letters and the body of the guitar below. Scrolling flourishes and small curled details frame the lettering and guitar. The work is rendered in black and grey with soft shading and fine highlights across the lettering and guitar body.

"Forty quid," she said, tapping her biro against the ticket book. "Thirty if the neck's gone. I can see from here it's gone."
I had a Friday slot at the Crown and a landlord who did not believe in patience. I was about to nod when Dev, who had come in to pawn a radio that didn't work, leaned over the counter and plucked the bottom string. It buzzed. He laughed and said the buzz was the sound of a neck that wanted a bit of love, and Mrs Okonedo gave him the look she gives people who try to haggle on her behalf.
I walked home along the canal at two in the morning with the empty case swinging off my shoulder, the lamps stacking themselves up in the black water. Under the railway arch at Castlefield a busker was doing a passable job on a song about a man in black who would not be told, and I stood there long enough to hear him fumble the bridge. Then I took the chalk from my coat pocket and wrote on the side of my case, in fat letters with curls on the ends, the only word I had left to sell. Tomorrow I would stand in that same spot and let the city decide whether it was worth more than forty quid.
