Cat, roses and Must Love Cats banner design
Neo-trad · Black and grey · Flash
A black and grey pencil sketch of a tattoo design centred on a cat wearing a pearl necklace, with roses, a lace fan and a ribbon banner reading Must Love Cats. Two stylised female portraits with flowing curled hair frame the composition at the top and bottom, and a snake-like shape sits at the left edge. The linework is fine and shaded, with soft tonal shading and no colour.

Mother had insisted the cat be dressed for Sunday, and Marjorie had never once been argued out of anything.

He produced a box of chocolates from his coat and a speech that began with the weather and wandered somewhere near the matter of marriage without quite arriving. Then he asked whether the animal might be put out in the yard. Hettie said no. He said the creature was a nuisance and that a sensible woman would not keep one. He read it twice, then laughed in a way she did not care for, and took his hat from the peg.
He was gone by nine. On Thursday a parcel arrived with a string of cheap paste pearls and a card in a cramped hand: I have been practising. The following Sunday he came up the garden path carrying a saucer of cream with great solemnity, knelt on the wet flagstones and held it out at arm's length. Marjorie considered him for a long time, the way she considered everything. Then she stepped down from the fan, walked over the chocolates he had brought and the mud on his good trousers, and began to drink.
