Circuit board skull design
Geometric · Black and grey · Flash
A symmetrical design made from thick black circuit board traces, pads and branching lines, forming a stylised skull-like shape with two hollow eye areas. The linework is solid black fills and clean single-weight lines on a plain white background. The composition is centred and vertical, with the traces spreading outward at the top and sides.

The fault log on Harrow Deep had been wrong for three weeks, and Maren Oyelaran trusted the board more than the log. She climbed the service ladder of the old relay tower with a torch in her teeth and a sealed pouch of solder paste buckled to her hip. Below her the wind off the Solent sang through the mesh cladding, and somewhere under the gantry a generator coughed and caught.

The fault was not in the tower at all. It was in the traces themselves. Someone had laid the old board out as a single branching spine, every track running from a central line that split and rejoined like the veins of a leaf, and the copper had been ghosting. Where the lines met the pads, the signal did not drop, it leaned, as if the whole thing was listening for something a few hundred yards off.
She found the cause at the junction where two black fills met like a pair of hollow sockets. A hairline crack ran across one pad, and a cheap patch had been bridged over it years ago by a technician who had signed the work with a tiny square mark, the same square that sat at the crown of the board. Maren laid her thumb over the mark and felt warmth through the glove. She reflowed the joint, held the iron until the solder silvered, and let the light go out in both eyes at once.
When the log cleared that night, the relay came back with a single line of text she had never seen before, scrolled in the old format: CONTINUITY RESTORED. She did not report it. She went down the ladder and left the torch on the rail for whoever came next.
