Comic superhero embrace on ribs
Ribs · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows a comic-book style superhero in a blue cape and cowl holding a smaller figure in a yellow cape against the body. The linework is bold and black, with grey shading on the muscular forms and cape folds. Blue and yellow ink add colour to the costumes, and the figures fill the curve of the ribs in a dynamic, diagonal composition.

The gulls had given up on Saltmarsh Quay long before the boy came down the schooner's rigging, and by the time he hit the cobbles the night watchman was already running. Tobias Greave had kept the lamp-house for nineteen winters without once leaving it after dark. Tonight he left it in a rush, his blue cloak snapping out behind him like a sail taking the wind.

He caught the boy a yard from the water, lifting him clean off the stones and pulling him in against his chest. The child smelled of tar and peppermint and was furious about it. "I wanted to see the lamp from up top," Wren said, kicking at the air. "You're not allowed up top," Greave said. "Nobody is. That's what the stair is for." He set the boy down on a bollard, yellow scarf wound twice round a fist gone white at the knuckles, and held on to him anyway.
The harbour master came grumbling down the quay with a lantern and a list of complaints, but he stopped when he saw the two of them, the watchman bent low, the boy's cheek pressed to the rough blue wool. Nobody mentioned the rigging again. Greave walked Wren home up Gull Lane with one hand on his shoulder, and at every corner the great lamp above them turned slowly, sweeping the black water and finding nothing that needed saving tonight.
