Contribute to the chaos lettering with knife on a forearm
Lettering · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows the words "contribute to the chaos" in black, upright lettering stacked over three lines, with a clean, slightly uneven outline. Below the text is a knife with a red handle, dark dots and a blade shaded in green and orange with black outlining. The forearm fills the frame against a dark background, and the lettering and knife are sharply focused.

Nobody at the Wexcombe Allotment Society had ever seen Mrs Pruett lose her temper, which is why the marrow show went quiet when she walked up to the judging table with a carving knife in one hand and a rolled-up rota in the other. The knife had a red handle studded with dark dots, a relic of her late husband's National Service, and she set it down beside the rosettes with the care of a surgeon laying out instruments.

"Mr Halloran," she said, "the leeks have been judged by the same man since 1987. The marrows have been judged by the same man since 1987. I have made four jars of chutney that were never once mentioned in the newsletter."
Mr Halloran, who had a wife, a pension and a deep fear of anything that could be called a scene, looked at the knife and then at the marrow, which was the size of a Labrador. Somebody at the back started to giggle. Then somebody else did. By the time the vicar arrived with the sponge tins, half the hall had pulled up a chair and the rota was pinned to the noticeboard, scribbled over in green biro: contribute to the chaos.
Mrs Pruett sliced the marrow open at the judges' table, neat as a sum. The flesh was pale and wet and a little shameful. She cut four thick rounds, handed the knife back to her husband's old friend, and gave the first slice to Mr Halloran, who took it with both hands like a man accepting a summons. Nobody mentioned the rosette. Nobody needed to.
