Coordinates in fine script on the ribs
Fine line · Ribs · Black and grey · Photo
A close-up photograph of a small tattoo reading 41.68°N 70.20°W in thin black script, set in a single horizontal line on the side of the torso. The linework is fine and even, with no shading, and the skin around it shows slight redness, suggesting the tattoo may be recently healed. The composition crops to the torso against a blue bikini strap, with a green wall, a tattoo chair and a black and white checkered floor in the background.

The skipper of the Gannet Rose said he was drifting on the west side of the bar with a fouled prop and no way to tell which way the tide had him.

She pulled the chart down from the wall of the shore station, a sheet gone soft at the folds from years of being rolled and unrolled. Her pencil found the grid lines. 'Stay on that heading and cut the engine,' she told him. 'Ring the bell every minute. I'll have a boat with a light at the mouth of the channel in twelve.' He asked her how she knew where he was. She said she had put him there herself, and that was the truth, because a number on a page had brought him in before and it would again.
At half past two the bell came faintly through the static, then a shout, then the grind of an outboard. She wrote the time in the log, under the coordinates, and then, because nobody would check, she wrote the word arrived and underlined it twice.
