Doctor Who sleeve with TARDIS and Dalek

Neo-trad · Upper arm · Colour · Photo

The tattoo covers the upper arm and shoulder with a Doctor Who scene. A blue police box labelled POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX and BADWOLF sits at the centre, with an orange and grey Dalek and a pale Weeping Angel in front of it. The background is a galaxy of blue, purple and orange with lightning bolts, and a green and pink creature sits at the lower edge of the arm.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The fishing boats had gone out before dawn, so the first person to see the blue box on Gannet Pier was Maggie Tully, who had come down with the tide book under one arm and a bacon roll in her fist. It stood between the bait stall and the lifeboat shed as if it had always been there, its lamp unlit, its door marked POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX in letters a little too bright for paint that old.

Two things stood beside it. The first was a pale stone angel on the sea wall, wings folded, face turned away from the water, and Maggie made a point of not looking at it directly, the way her gran had taught her with statues in churchyards. The second came rattling off the fish market ramp with a plunger swinging from its arm, orange and grey and studded like a cheap sugar cake. It swivelled its eyestalk toward her and announced that the harbour was now under its command.

'Tide's on the turn,' Maggie said, because it was the only useful thing she could think of. 'You'll want to be off the slipway by eleven.' The sky over the bay tore open in a sheet of orange lightning, and the blue box glowed from within as if someone had switched on a lamp in a different century. The Dalek hesitated. Maggie stepped round the angel, pushed the door open with the heel of her hand, and saw only a dim room full of humming and a wooden stool that looked like it had belonged to her grandfather.

She went in, found the stool still warm, and wrote in the harbour log before anything else: Tide turned. One box, one Dalek, both gone.
