Full sleeve with prism, brick wall and eye imagery
Upper arm · Colour · Photo
A full arm sleeve covers the upper arm and shoulder, built from many separate scenes. A dark prism with a rainbow beam sits at the centre, with a brick wall, a large blue eye, clouds, planets and a seated figure with its head in its hands. The shading is soft and blended, with bright blues, pinks and greens set against black and grey backgrounds.

Brannoch had been mending the same wall for eleven winters when the stranger came up the pass with a hammer on his belt and no sheep at his heels. He asked what the wall was keeping out. Ada set down her ladle and told him the wind, and the cloud that sat on the col from Martinmas to Lent, and the great blue eye that the cloud carried in its belly and turned on the valley when it was hungry.

He did not laugh. He climbed the wall and looked up at the black stone on the summit, the one shaped like a tent with no door, which the shepherds called the Shut Hat. Ada told him that when the sun came low through the gap in the cloud, the stone took the light and threw it out in a band of colours down into Glen Scarrow, and that no one who had seen it had ever agreed which colour was the true one.
The stranger sat down by the wall with his head in his hands and stayed three nights. On the fourth morning he stood up, took the hammer from his belt, and knocked out the topmost course, stone by stone, until a shaft of light came through the gap and lay across the path like a plank.
Ada went up at noon to count the stones. There were the same number as before, and one more, warm from the sun, that she had never seen before, with a small hammer cut into its face.
