Doctor Who sleeve with TARDIS and Dalek
Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A mirror selfie of a person wearing a full sleeve tattoo that runs from the upper arm to the wrist. The upper section shows a TARDIS and a Dalek drawn in black linework with grey shading, set among clouds and swirling details. The lower forearm adds green and red foliage and a few greyscale motifs, with the colour concentrated on the lower part of the sleeve.

The Dalek had been wedged behind the tombola for three days before anyone thought to ask why it kept humming. Mrs Pennock swore it was the generator. Bert swore it was the damp. I said nothing, because I had watched the blue box settle onto the green at dawn, rain-dark and slightly crooked, and I knew a thing like that did not park on a village green for no reason.

The fête sat under a sky that kept building clouds and then forgetting what they were for. They rolled over the church spire like cream on a bad custard, and the bunting sagged under them. Around noon a lean man in a long coat wandered up to the jam stall and asked for the lane to Coldharbour Fen. Nobody had heard of Coldharbour Fen since the war, but I pointed him to the footbridge anyway. He thanked me, then glanced at the Dalek and said, quite kindly, 'Leave the plunger alone, it's been through enough.'
The Dalek's eyestalk swivelled towards him. For one dreadful second the whole green went silent, even the raffle drum. Then the eyestalk dipped, very slowly, as if bowing to a rather good cake.
By teatime the box had gone and the grass had forgiven it. On the tombola table I found a single boiled sweet, green and sticky, with a folded note under it in careful handwriting: Keep the bridge clear. The bridge was still there, and so was the Dalek, now stuck fast behind the bunting pole.
