Floral piece on a shoulder blade and small nape tattoo
Botanical · Back · Colour · Photo
A woman with short blonde hair is photographed from behind, showing a large floral tattoo across her right shoulder blade. The design includes orange lilies, yellow sunflowers and red gerbera daisies with green leaves, drawn with bold outlines and solid colour fills. A small dark tattoo sits at the nape of the neck, and the bathroom background is softly out of focus.

Dear Auntie Mo,

The wind took the top off the Dodgems tent again last night, so the lilies got rained on and the sunflowers bowed like they were being introduced to the Mayor. Dad says we should sell the lot cheap by Sunday, but I've been arranging them in buckets on the back of the cart the way you showed me, orange lilies at the front for the punters who want to be noticed, and the gerberas tucked behind where the lamp catches them.
Mrs Hadley from the candy stall bought one gerbera every evening for a month and never once said what it was for. On the Friday she came round with a face like a closed purse and asked for the reddest one I had. I wrapped it in the Evening Standard, the way you do, and she tucked it into her coat and walked off towards the generators without a word. I've decided not to ask.
The lad who works the waltzers stopped by Tuesday and wanted a bunch for his mum's birthday. He couldn't decide between the sunflowers and the lilies, so I told him the lilies were for people who meant it and the sunflowers were for people who needed a bit of sun. He bought both and paid in coppers, counting them out on my upturned crate like a bank clerk.
I kept back one gerbera for myself, the orangey one with the bent stem. It's in a jam jar on the caravan step now, going brown at the edges, and every morning I tell myself I'll throw it out. Tell Dad I'm coming home when the fair packs up in Leeds. Love, Jo.
