Full arm sleeve of space scene with planets and comets
Realism · Upper arm · Colour · Photo
The sleeve depicts a space scene with swirling galaxies, glowing planets, streaking comets and a small astronaut near the lower forearm. The shading is soft and painterly, with dense nebula clouds and bright star points across the dark background. Vivid oranges, blues, greens and purples dominate, and the four views show the sleeve from front, side and back.

Don't look up yet, love. Wait till the bus has gone past the chippy, because the sky over Lowfield is a liar after dark and all you'll see is the orange of the streetlamps. There. Now lift your chin and keep your eyes on the gap above the gasworks.

Old Mr Abney swept the yard at the depot for thirty-one years, and every night after his shift he climbed onto the flat roof of the bakery with a telescope he'd built from a drainpipe and a lens off a cracked camera. He kept a ledger of what he saw. There was a comet he named Dorothy, after his wife, because she came in fast and left in a hurry. There was a red planet he called Our Kevin, because it was always throwing its weight about among the others.
Then came the storm in the autumn of that year, when the power went out across the whole estate and the streets sank into black. For an hour the sky came through as if someone had pulled a blanket off the stars. He saw the clouds of violet and green stretching over the rooftops, the whole spiral of a galaxy turning slow above the chimneys, and there was Dorothy, streaking low over the canal with her tail lit like a match. He ran down the stairs to fetch the baker's girl so she could see it too, but by the time they reached the roof the lights had come back on and the sky had shut like a door.
He never found her again. In the back of his ledger, on the last page, he drew a small man in a fishbowl helmet, tethered by a thin line to the corner of the paper, so that someone would be keeping watch while the rest of us went to sleep.
