Gallifreyan circles on the upper chest
Geometric · Chest · Black and grey · Photo
A black outline tattoo of overlapping circles, arcs and small dots, resembling the Gallifreyan script from Doctor Who, sits across the upper chest. The lines are uniform and solid black with no shading, and the design is shown in black ink only against light skin. The image is framed close, with the design centred and the edges of the chest visible at the top.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The harbourmaster at Salt Quay kept his tide tables in a script nobody else could read, because he had invented it the winter his wife rowed out to the Gannet and never rowed back. He wrote in rings. A circle with a dot on its rim meant the water was on the turn. Two arcs meant the bar would be dry by noon. A ring split by a single line meant every boat should stay tied up, whatever the sky was doing.

His apprentice, Tamsin Rook, copied the rings onto slate every evening and got half of them wrong. She drew the dots too close together and the arcs too round, and for a long time he only grunted and wiped her work away with his sleeve. Then one February he stopped wiping. He turned her slate over and tapped a ring she had drawn without thinking, one with three dots spaced like the panes of a lamp-room, and said it was the first honest thing anyone had written in that harbour in twenty years.
The storm came in off the Scar on a Thursday. The cutter Marigold was still out past the bar with her crew of four, and the harbourmaster lay abed with a fever that would not break. Tamsin climbed to the lamp-room with his slates under her arm. She read the rings the way he had taught her, one by one, until she found the circle with three dots and the arcs beneath it, and she turned the great lamp to show the bar a light for exactly as long as the rings said to.
At first light the Marigold came in over the bar, low in the water and every man aboard alive. When Tamsin went down to tell the harbourmaster, his bed was empty and the wall above it was freshly chalked with a single ring. Inside it, where a name should have gone, sat one small dot. She had no idea yet what it meant, and she stood looking at it until the tide turned.
