Geometric wolf head on forearm
Geometric · Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A wolf's head with sharp, angular facets and sketchy dark linework fills most of the forearm, with a branch and leaves running down toward the wrist. A teal-blue bloom sits at the lower end of the branch, softly shaded in watercolour-like washes. Greys and black dominate the wolf, while the blue accents add colour against the pale skin and the brick background.

Dear Ruth,

The rain has been coming sideways down Castle Street since six, and the awning on stall fourteen has sagged into a bowl again. I've propped it with the broom handle like you showed me, though I suspect you'd say the broom is the problem. Mr Okafor from the fishmonger's lent me his trestle, so I now have a table that doesn't wobble, which I'm treating as a sign.
The wolf print you left folded on the back of the chair is still with me. I pinned it above the till where the damp can't get at it. Everyone who stops asks about the wolf rather than the cloths. They ask whether it's a dog, or a fox, or a painting from a book. I tell them it's a wolf that has been folded into triangles by someone who didn't trust straight lines, and they buy a scarf out of pity for my explanations.
Thursday a girl of about nine came with her father and stood staring at the teal bundle tied at the end of the rail, the one shaped like a bud. She asked whether it would open if she put it in water. I said probably, if she was patient. She nodded as though I'd promised her something serious, and I thought of you saying the same thing about the branch that never flowered in Mum's back garden.
I'm packing up now, and the gutters are roaring like weirs. I'll post this on the way home past the box so it goes out tonight. Write back and tell me the wolf still looks at you the way it did, and that you haven't sold the bud to some stranger with a lovely smile. Your loving sister, Maggie.
