A realistic green eye tattoo with detailed lashes and brow lines on the upper arm of a person holding a metallic clutch.

Green eye tattoo on upper arm

Realism · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo

A close street-style photograph of a person's upper arm and torso, with a realistic eye tattoo above the elbow. The eye has a green iris, shaded black lashes and a defined brow line, and the linework and shading are fine and smooth. The warm sunlight and blurred pale background draw attention to the tattoo against the bare skin, the satin top, the purple pleated skirt and the silver clutch.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Dear Ivy, you'll laugh, but Mr Pruett has put me on the door of the Carrow Bay Ballroom with a cash tin and his late wife's opera glasses. He says I have the eye for it. On Saturday I spotted two dud half-crowns before the band had finished tuning, and the lad who'd passed them went the colour of cold custard.

The girls call me Green Eye now, which I rather like, though Mum would say it's bad luck to be looked at so hard. There's a fellow called Teddy Varley who comes every Thursday in a grey suit and never dances. He sits by the third pillar watching the floor as if it owes him money. I clocked him in the second week, and he has never once looked my way, which is how I know he is looking at me.

Last night he came to the counter with a handful of pennies and asked whether I'd seen a woman in a bronze dress, a dancer who used to work the Pier Pavilion. I said the only thing I'd seen all week was his terrible taste in socks. He didn't smile. He slid a photograph across the wood instead, creased and faded, and there was a girl in it with my exact green eyes and a dress the colour of old pennies.

I have put the opera glasses back in the drawer, and I've asked Mr Pruett for a lock on it. Some eyes you keep open on purpose, Ivy, and some you keep shut so the wrong person can't see what they hold. Write soon and tell me Dad's knee is better.
