Green man forearm tattoo
Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A green man face, formed from leaves and branches, covers most of the forearm, with its features shaded in greens and browns and touches of red in the eyes. Soft blending and fine detail give the foliage depth, and an ornate scroll and ornament sits towards the wrist. A gloved hand holds the arm at the bottom of the frame against a patterned background.

The miller's girl had been sent up to Harrowden Keep with a basket of eggs, and she came back down the hill that same afternoon without them, saying the ivy had let her in and would not let her out until she gave it something. Her mother asked what it wanted. The girl said it wanted a name, because everything that grows on a wall has been named by someone, and the ivy had gone nameless for three hundred years.

Old Tobias Reed, who had mended the roof of the keep when he was young, went up with her the next morning carrying a bread knife and a jug of small beer. The great hall had no roof left, only rafters grey with moss, and on the far wall a stone face looked out from a bank of leaves. Ivy grew from its mouth, oak sprigs from its brows, and its eyes were two chips of red sandstone that caught the light as if someone had just lit them.
Tobias sat on a fallen block and poured the beer across the flagstones. He told the face he had no proper name to give it, only the one his grandmother used, which was Hob, and that was a poor name for a thing so old. The leaves shivered though there was no wind. Somewhere under the wall a wren started up and stopped again.
When he walked home the ivy had gone quiet, and the girl's basket sat on the gatepost with every egg whole. Tobias never climbed to the keep again. Each spring after, the ivy along the north wall grew thicker around the stone mouth, and the miller's family never once went short of eggs.
