Black ink script lettering reading "Fuck the Systsem" in three lines across a forearm, in a lettering style.

Handwritten slogan tattoo on a forearm

Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

A close photograph of a three-line handwritten slogan in black ink on the outer forearm, set against a yellow fabric background. The script has loose, uneven strokes with a few fine shaded edges, and the words are the main subject, filling most of the frame. The skin tone and soft lighting are even, and the text is fully legible.

Sit down before the kettle goes, because the lift's buggered again and nobody's climbing those stairs before six. You want the story of the chart above the sluice sink? Right. Back when this ward still had its Victorian windows, there was a night sister called Maureen Dunphy who kept a box of biros under the drug trolley. Every shift she'd scribble on the backs of spent drug charts, small and slanting, anything the porters said that made her laugh.

One February a registrar from the city, all creases and no sleep, tried to shift a dying man out of Bay Four into a corridor because the beds were wanted for a coach crash on the bypass. Maureen stood in the doorway with her arms folded and told him the bed stayed where it was. He called her a few things I won't repeat. She wrote his exact words on the back of a chart that night, underlined them twice, and pinned it above the sluice sink where the cleaners would have to read it every morning.

Nobody ever signed it. The man died in Bay Four with the curtains drawn and the radio low, and the registrar went on to bigger hospitals and better parking. Maureen kept her own counsel and her biros.

Here's the funny part. Last spring a sales rep in a grey suit stood at that sink waiting for a fire door code, read the chart out loud, and copied the lettering into the back of his diary while he waited. Pure cheek. I asked him who'd taught him to write like that, and he said nobody, he'd just liked the look of it. Maureen would have given him a mug of tea and a lecture. Now drink yours while it's hot.
