Jack Skellington and Zero on a wrist
Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows Jack Skellington, the skeletal character with a round head and striped suit, walking on the left while holding a lead attached to Zero, his small white ghost dog, on the right. The linework is bold and clean, with grey shading on the suit stripes, hands and shoes. The design is almost entirely black and grey, with only a small warm tint on Zero's nose, and it sits on a pale forearm close to the wrist.

Jack Skellington had been told the lead was for the dog's own good, and at the start of December in Hollowmere he believed it, mostly because the frost made the cobbles treacherous and Zero had already gone through the bunting twice. The dog was small and white and had a nose that glowed the warm orange of a struck match, and he did not care for pavements. He preferred the rooftops, the weathervanes, and anything that might be a cat if you squinted in the right light.

They reached Pell's Bakery just after the lamps were lit. Mrs Pell wiped flour from her hands, looked at the skeleton in the striped waistcoat, and said, "You'll want the bread done before the bell, love, same as always." Jack tipped his head and held out a coin that was really a button. She took it anyway. Zero snatched a bun off the sill and ran, which pulled the lead tight and sent Jack skidding past three lamp posts and one very patient postman.
The chase ended at the church steps, where a boy in a knitted hat sat beside a saucer of milk that had frozen solid. Zero sat down next to it and looked up at Jack with those round, unbothered eyes. Jack knelt, which took a while, and wound the lead twice around his wrist. "Fine," he said. "Half an hour. Then home."
Mrs Pell would tell it differently, of course. In her version the dog walked the man.
