Mo, the photocopier at the library has finally died, so I'm writing this by hand on the back of a council form. You won't believe what Carol did. Sheila from the Working Men's Club came up the stairs to ask what the racket was. Carol held up the master and said, It's a fist, love. Sheila said, It looks like a mouth. Carol said, Same thing, if you're loud enough. I laughed so hard I got ink on my good trousers.

We ran off two hundred copies on the duplicator Dad had borrowed from the bank, which was grand until the third run, when the drum jammed and every fist came out with a black thumb. We stuck the first batch up outside the bus station anyway. By the next morning someone had already written underneath in marker, Who asked you. Carol took a pen and added, You did, and now we're even.

I'm bringing you a bundle on Sunday. Keep one for Mam, though don't tell her what it says. She'll only say I'm too loud for this town, and I'll tell her the town was quiet enough to start with. Love, Dani
