Lumos word and star on a wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows the word lumos written in a thin, slightly slanted hand beside a small four-pointed star with a tiny filled centre. The lines are single, even and dark black with no shading. The wrist fills most of the frame against a dark sleeve, with the tattoo placed centrally.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The lamps on the mountain road of Hollin Reach went out every autumn when the oil ran low, and the carters walked the last miles in the dark. Old Mab, the lamplighter, knew a single word that could light a wick without oil. Her grandmother had taught it to her, and she guarded it the way she guarded bread in a hard winter.

Her grandson Tobin, nine years old, begged her to teach it to him. She refused, saying the word wore thin if it was spoken for small things. He practised it anyway, chalking it on the gatehouse wall in a hand that leaned forward like a man walking into rain. Every night he wrote it again, and every morning the sleet had rubbed it away.
One November the snow closed the pass, and a midwife's cart was caught below the ridge with a woman labouring inside. Mab's knees gave out on the ice. Tobin took the lantern and climbed to the iron cross where the old beacon stood. He said the word into the wind and nothing came. He said it again, quietly, the way you would wake someone you did not want to frighten.
A light rose on the cross, no bigger than a thumbnail, and the cart found it and came down the road. When Tobin came home with frozen fingers, Mab said nothing. She took the chalk from his pocket and drew a small star beside the word on the gatehouse wall, four points and a dot at its heart. The sleet came that night, and the word washed away, but the star stayed.
