Matching I love you wrist tattoos
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Two pairs of hands are held together, palms facing, showing a handwritten script phrase on each inner wrist. The left wrist reads I love you in smaller, thinner strokes, and the right wrist repeats the phrase larger with a slightly heavier line. The ink is dark navy or black on light skin, with a plain background of wood flooring and a cabinet edge.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Hettie had her brother's hand down to the slope of the tails, the way he crossed his t's like a gate left swinging. She practised it at the kitchen table until the candle guttered, because Tom could not write past the first line of anything and the lead office in Alston would only take letters in a clerk's lettering. So when he came up from the shaft with lime on his boots and asked her to put down the thing he could not, she did not argue.

He stood over her with his cap in both hands. "Two," he said. "One small, for Mam to keep in the Bible. One big, for Nan Pattinson's girl to read across the room without her spectacles." The words were only three short ones, the easiest in any hand, but she wrote the small copy first, pressing light so the nib would not catch. The big one took longer. Her own hand wanted to slant the other way, and she had to fight it letter by letter, the way you hold a pony's head against a gust.
Tom folded the small one into his waistcoat and the large one into an envelope for the Pattinsons' yard. He left before the snow came over Stainmoor, riding with the carrier's mule, and the envelope went up the pass in the leather pouch with the others.
In March the carrier came back alone, the pouch light on his shoulder. Hettie unpacked Tom's waistcoat from the bundle of things the mine had sent down, and the small copy was still there, soft at the folds, the ink gone brown. She held it to the lamp and could not tell, any more, which of the two hands had written it.
