Matching quote tattoos on two forearms
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two people hold their arms interlocked, with the forearms running across the frame. Each forearm carries a line of black script, with the upper one reading Every Saint Has A Past and the lower one reading Every Sinner Has A Future. The lettering is crisp and even, the image is in black and grey, and the faces are not visible.

Dear Ruth,

The bus broke down outside Carrow Wells again, so I have spent three hours in the shade of a petrol station reading the back of sugar packets. You will want to know whether I have found Dennis. I have not. I have found a man at the pump who says he drove him to the coast in March, and a woman in the café who swears she sold him a bottle of cheap whisky and a pair of boots, and that the boots were too big. That sounds like Dennis. He never bought anything in his own size in his life.
Mum always said he would come back when the money ran out, and I think she was right, though I would never tell her so. Yesterday I sat with a lad from the rig crew who had his forearm wrapped in clingfilm. When he peeled it back I saw the words he had put there, black and neat, the same careful capitals Dennis used on the back of every postcard he ever sent us. Every saint has a past. The lad said his girl had the other half done too, and that they had sat in a chair in Doncaster until the artist told them to stop arguing about the punctuation.
I am going to walk to the next junction in the morning. If the road is as empty as they say, this card will reach you when the courier comes through on Thursday. Keep the porch light on for me, love. I know what I am like, and I know what he is like, and I would rather be the sinner with a future than the saint who never got out of the car.
