Mermaid line art on upper arm
Fine line · Upper arm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a mermaid with flowing hair, her head turned and an arm bent near her body, with small open bubbles drifting around her. It is drawn in a single thin black outline with no shading or fill. The skin tone and green sleeve are the only other colours, and the design sits centrally on the upper arm.

It was a pond with a leak, and in the pond lived a mermaid called Wren Tallow, who had hair the colour of wet rope and no patience whatsoever.

She had been swimming up and down that pond since the old king's ships passed the wall in the rain. Every spring she sent a bubble to the surface for each thing she wanted. Small wishes came up as small bubbles. A new spade. A reel of silver thread. The gardener's boy to stop trampling the mint. They drifted up and popped in the sun, and nobody saw them except the bees.
One August the gardener, old Silas Brand, came down with his bucket and found the water too low to lift. He sat on the rim and wept into it, and Wren, who had never once been asked for anything by a grown man, rose through the reeds with her hair streaming and said, "Stop that, you'll flood me." He laughed so hard he fell in, and she had to haul him out by his braces.
She gave him rain for a fortnight and asked nothing back. If you lean over that rim on a still morning, you'll still see a bubble or two come up, and Silas's grandson swears they're wishes. I've never argued with him.
