Metallic temporary tattoos on arms, back and neck

Geometric · Forearm · Colour · Photo

The collage shows four photographs of metallic temporary tattoos on skin: ornate scrollwork and mandala-style motifs on the forearm and wrist, a mandala on the upper back, a single peacock feather on the neck, and tribal-style geometric bands with diamond and chevron patterns on the forearm. The designs are drawn in solid metallic gold, silver and teal with fine outlines and some small dot accents, with no shading. Each photo is composed close to the skin, with natural light and the subject's head or face kept out of frame.

Dear Win,

You will not believe what Mrs Pardoe has let into the back parlour this week. A thin man with a case of gold, silver and teal transfers, calling himself Mr Lazarus Finch, sat at the kitchen table on Tuesday and talked the whole of the washing-up out of me. He had sheets of peacock feathers, each the size of a thumbnail, and a book of mandalas with lacy rims dotted with tiny stones, the kind you would expect to see pinned inside a seed catalogue.

Mrs Pardoe bought a dozen before he had finished his tea. Now the girls from the upper floor go about the promenade with their arms wrapped in scrollwork, the gold running from wrist to elbow, and they say it catches the sun the way the sea does at four o'clock. The Hendersons' boy wanted a chevron band like a Berber rug, and his mother said no, then yes, then no again.

I did not buy any. I thought of you, and of the summer we ran along the groyne and you swore the tide was counting. Finch left me a single feather on a card. I have pressed it into the back of this letter, so mind the corner when you open it.

Tell me whether the lodgers in number nine are still arguing about the bathwater. I shall come home at the end of the month, gold or no gold.

Yours, Edie
