Overlapping circles on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows a cluster of overlapping circles and ellipses, with a central trefoil-like intersection and several dotted and solid arcs. Thin, precise linework is combined with dotted lines and small directional arrows, with heavier strokes at some intersections for depth. The design is in black ink only and sits centred on the forearm against a dark t-shirt.

Every seven years the three of them came back to Harrowden for the reunion, and every seven years Mrs Adeyemi, who had taught them long division in the hot room above the chapel, made them walk the parish bounds before anyone was allowed a drink. She said it was tradition. Nobody could remember it being tradition before she invented it.

So they walked. Ruth went first, as she always did, tracing a route that never quite met the lane. Tomasz kept to the outside, clockwise, complaining about the stile. Dev took the inside track, which was shorter, and which he claimed was the whole point. Wherever their paths crossed, by the well, by the oak where someone had once carved a heart with three initials, they stopped, shook hands, and turned again, as though the crossing were a toll they had agreed to pay.
By dusk the lane had worn three faint rings into the field. Mrs Adeyemi, eighty-one and still sharp with chalk dust on her cardigan, stood at the middle where they overlapped and said that was the shape she had always meant to draw on the board and never had the nerve for. Nobody argued. Dev laughed until he had to sit on the wall, and the other two sat down beside him, close enough that their elbows touched.
When they finally went for their drinks, the small arrows they had scratched into the dust with their heels all pointed the same way, round and round, and none of them had planned it that way.
