Paisley floral tattoo design drawing
Botanical · Black and grey · Flash
A hand-drawn black ink design of an ornate floral composition with pointed leaves, curling scrolls and a paisley-like central bloom. Fine outlines and small dots create the detail, with stippled shading in parts of the lower section. A red flower sits partly in the top right corner, and the design is drawn in black and grey on plain white paper.

Ruth had logged the lost property at Culverby station for nineteen years, and she knew the difference between things people forgot and things they left on purpose. The brown leather case was the second kind. It came in on the 16:40 from Leeds, wedged under a bench, with a sheet of cartridge paper folded inside and a single red petal pressed flat between the pages like a bookmark.

The drawing was a bloom made of other blooms. Pointed leaves climbed one side of the sheet, scrolls curled out from a central flower like a fist opening, and every edge was furred with dots so fine she had to tilt the paper under the desk lamp to be sure they were ink and not dust. Lower down, someone had shaded a hollow with stipple, patient as rain, and at the very bottom a small round flower hung from a stem like a pendant. In the corner, in pencil so faint it could have been a smudge, a name had been rubbed out and written again.
She spent her lunch break trying to match it. The café had a noticeboard, the platform two waiting room had a shelf of abandoned paperbacks, and the stationmaster's wife ran a henna stall at the Saturday market. Nobody claimed it. On Friday, a man in a grey coat leaned on the window and asked whether anything had turned up. Ruth slid the folder across without a word. He turned the pages slowly, stopped at the stipple, and said, 'She always did the shading first. Said the rest was just showing off.'
