Realistic butterflies across a bare abdomen
Realism · Other · Black and grey · Photo
Four butterflies with shaded, lifelike wings are spread across a bare abdomen, with one near the navel and others higher and lower on the torso. The wings use soft grey gradients and fine detail to create a three-dimensional effect. The image is a black and white photograph, with the frame cropped at the midriff and a denim waistband with lace visible at the bottom.

Mrs Dunn says a girl who cannot keep time on a dance floor ends up sweeping it, which is more or less what she told me in 1938, and I have not forgotten it.

Mr Hollis came in last night with his glass cabinet under one arm, the one with the blue morpho wings he keeps behind green velvet. He wanted me to hold the door while he carried it up to the mezzanine, where he has been showing it to the bank managers. He said the wings were the only things in the building that never got tired. I told him that was because nothing had ever asked them to dance.
On the way back down, one of the pins had worked loose. A single wing lifted off the velvet and drifted across the floor like a card somebody had dropped, and the whole room stopped to watch it go. Hollis went white, then laughed, and Jimmy from the band caught it in his cupped hands and passed it to me without a word. It weighed less than the ticket stub in my glove. I have pressed it inside my hymn book now, and I think you should come home at Christmas to see it before the damp gets to it.
