Realistic ladybird on a forearm

Realism · Forearm · Colour · Photo

Two photographs show the same realistic ladybird tattoo from slightly different angles, with its domed red wing cases, black spots and dark head and legs. The shading gives the body a glossy, three-dimensional look, and the design sits on pale skin with the arm filling the lower and right parts of the frame.

Dear Nell, the big wheel has finally stopped squeaking since Tomasz oiled it with the last of the chip fat, so you can stop worrying about the noise keeping you up in Bristol. We pulled into the field behind the Co-op at Wrenfield on Tuesday and the lads have already got the dodgems pinned down under a tarp. Mam asked after you twice, so write to her too, even if it is just a postcard of a seaside pier.

The ladybird turned up on the strongman's booth canvas this morning, sat right on the seam where the red panel meets the black. Nobody saw it arrive. Ruby swears it walked in from the hay bales, but I reckon it came off the back of the candyfloss van, where the sugar makes everything sticky enough to hold a beetle. We counted its spots and got seven before it flew off over the coconut shy, which Ruby says is luck and I say is just a beetle with a sense of direction.

Do not laugh, but I have kept my eye out for it all afternoon. Old Parry at the rifle stall says a ladybird that settles on you before a move means you will be wanted in the next town, and I told him that was rubbish. Then the generator cut out at six and the whole field went black except that one red shape on the canvas, and I was glad of it. Write soon. Tell me if the Bristol lights are as bright as the papers say. Love, Jo.
