Realistic lion head tattoo on a finger

Realism · Hand · Black and grey · Photo

A lion's face with a full mane is tattooed on one finger, with the head facing forward and the eyes, nose and mouth clearly shaded. The work is in black and grey, using soft gradients and fine hatching to build the fur and mane. The finger fills most of the frame against a dark leather background, with the rest of the hand visible in warm lighting.

Dear Nell, the wagons came off the A-road at dusk and the whole field smelled of diesel and wet canvas. Dad says the lion is called Cassius now, though the old man who had him before called him Major, and Cassius answers to neither. He answers to the rattle of the feed bucket and nothing else, which is more than I can say for the council man with the clipboard.

Last night he got out. Not far. Dad found the cage latch undone and the straw pressed flat in a neat circle, and the cat sitting in the middle of the dodgems track with his mane full of grease from the hot dog stall. Nobody screamed. The lads on the night shift just stood very still, the way you do at a bus stop when a dog comes round the corner. Cassius looked at them the way a magistrate looks at a parking ticket.

I went out with the bucket because that is what I am for, apparently. He let me walk up to the edge of the track, then he turned and climbed the steps of the Waltzer, slow as a deacon, and sat down on the top platform under the bulbs. I stood there for twenty minutes rattling tin. In the end he came down on his own, ducking his great head under the safety bar, and walked back past me to the lorry as if the whole thing had been his idea.

Dad says he'll be sold at the end of the season. I have decided not to think about it until the big wheel stops for the night. Write back soon and tell me the sea is still grey at Whitby. I'll keep the bucket by the door.
