Realistic tiger portrait on a forearm
Realism · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A tiger's head and upper body fill the centre of the forearm, looking straight ahead with its whiskers and striped fur detailed. The shading is smooth and highly detailed, with fine hair texture and strong contrast between the dark stripes and lighter areas. Sharp, angular leaves and foliage surround the animal, and the dark wall behind the arm keeps the focus on the tattoo.

Every evening the tiger came to the edge of the nipa palms and stood there, looking across the water at the village of Pulau Kelam, and every evening the fishermen pulled their nets a little faster. Nobody on the island had ever seen it blink. The old net-mender, Pak Rahim, said it was the island's keeper, older than the first houses, and that as long as it watched, the sea would give up its fish.

His granddaughter, Siti, did not believe him. She was nine and believed only in things she could hold. One evening, with the tide low and the mud sucking at her sandals, she walked out past the last boat and stood where the leaves grew sharp and grey as knives. The tiger turned its head. Its eyes were pale in the dusk, and its whiskers lifted as though it were tasting the air for her name.
She did not run. She remembered what her grandfather had told her: the keeper wanted only to be sure the path was known. So she bent, picked up a fallen frond, and drew a line in the wet earth from the water's edge toward the houses, the way the children drew lines for games. When she looked up, the tiger had gone, but the leaves on either side of her line lay flat, as if someone had brushed them aside with a hand.
The next morning the fishermen found the path clear, and the nets came back heavy. Siti never told anyone what the tiger had looked at her for. She only said that the leaves had shown her where to walk, and that the sea had learned to listen.
