Rebel and Jedi symbols on matching wrists

Neo-trad · Forearm · Mixed · Photo

Two wrists are shown side by side, each with a Star Wars emblem in black outline. The left emblem, the Rebel Alliance insignia, contains a shaded pink rose with green leaves, while the right, a Jedi symbol, holds a dark blue and purple galaxy with a small star burst and a thin line running up from it. Both designs have bold black linework, and the colour is concentrated inside the emblems against plain skin.

Mags, the chart came back from the printers with a smear of rose-coloured ink across the harbour, and I've decided it's a sign rather than a mistake. Dad always blamed the paper for everything. You'd have laughed at me hunched over the table with the lamp pulled close, trying to match the bent star near Cassel Reach to the coordinates you left in the tin.

The tin is still under my bed. Inside were your ferry tickets, a bent compass and the folded sketch you drew on the back of a lunch bill, the one with a starburst at its heart and a single line running up from it like a fishing rod. You said it was a map of where you'd be when the lamps went out. I thought it was a joke. Now the ferry to Halvern runs only twice a week and the harbour master won't say why.

Last night a courier in a grey coat knocked on the back door and asked for the mapmaker's daughter. He had a rose stamped on his cuff, faded almost to pink. He left a card with one word on it, Ember. I didn't ask him where you were. I only asked whether the line in your drawing pointed north or down.

He said down, toward the water, where the old lighthouse keeps its lamp unlit. So I'm packing the chart, the compass and a heel of bread. If you read this, come to the lighthouse before the tide turns. Bring the pencil. I'll bring the stars.
