Script quote about chaos and balance
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A single line of flowing black script reads 'And the chaos within me found balance' across three lines, centred on a plain white background. The linework is fine and even, with looping capitals and tapered strokes. The image is monochrome with no shading and no body or skin visible.

You have been at the kitchen table since four, a nib pen in one hand and a mug of cold tea skinning over at your elbow. Forty place cards are drying on the windowsill, and the bride has already texted to ask whether the ampersand could be more swoopy. Your father's old drawing board is wedged between the fridge and the bin, and the light is going orange over the harbour in Ramsgate.

The vows are the job nobody else wanted. Marisol wrote them in a spiral notebook with half the lines crossed out, and she asked you to copy the last sentence onto a card for the table where she will sit. You have written it eleven times. The capitals keep collapsing. Each time the A loops too wide or the J drops below the baseline like a dropped stitch, and you start the whole line again while the ink cools.
Around two you give up on neatness. You let the downstrokes run and the tails stretch, and the words begin to look as if they were always going to land where they landed. Your hand is steadier than it was at dusk. You could not say when that changed.
On Saturday she reads the vows standing under the chestnut tree, and when she reaches that last line she stops for a breath. You are at the back by the drinks table with the spare cards in your jacket, and she looks straight past the guests to find you, as though she already knows whose writing it is.
