Script quote on a forearm
Lettering · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A handwritten script quote runs down the inner forearm in dark grey-black ink, set in a flowing, slightly slanted hand. The lines are fine and even, with light shading giving the letters a soft, slightly faded look. The forearm sits against a white lace sleeve and a cameo pendant necklace, with a bookshelf blurred in the background.

You will remember what she used to say when the rent went up the winter you were born, that the night is always darkest just before the dawn, and that she had never once been wrong about a sunrise. He said the pattern had come up from London with a note that it was new, a vine with small five-petalled blossoms running down the sleeve. It was the very flower Mother worked by candlelight when her eyes were still good. I took one cuff from the pile and every hole was stitched true. Someone in a warm room is still wearing what we make.
Come home when the ships dock. I will have the kettle on and the window open, and when you see the first grey over the chimneys, tell me what colour it is. Your loving sister, Ada.
