Script quotes on thighs with feather
Lettering · Thigh · Black and grey · Photo
A close crop of a person's upper thighs and hips, with black clothing at the top of the frame. Two black script lines sit on the thighs, one on the left reading in my heart is a memory and one on the right reading and there you'll always, and a black and grey feather design runs between them, partly covered by fabric. The linework is fine and even, with soft grey shading in the feather and the skin tones are warm.

Dear Nell,

The lift in Carrick House has been out since Tuesday, so I've been taking the stairs with the shopping, all eleven floors, and on the ninth landing I found a grey feather stuck to the wet paint of the banister as if someone had tried to post it there. I brought it home and stood it in the teapot, because the teapot is the only thing in this flat that doesn't get dusted on Sundays. You'd have laughed at me hauling it up.
Mrs Okafor from 4B says the pigeons have moved into the bin store again and the council will come round when the weather turns, which means never. She asked after you. I told her you were in Leeds doing something with spreadsheets and that you still owe me a fiver.
I keep thinking about the card you sent Dad in March, the one with the line you copied out in your slanted hand: in my heart is a memory, and there you'll always. You never finished it. I used to think you'd run out of room. Now I think you left it open on purpose so I'd have to finish it myself.
So come up at Easter and bring the fiver. The feather can go wherever you like, but I want you to see the view from the ninth floor before they build the new flats across the road. There you'll always be, love, whether you like it or not.
Love, Jo
