Seven chakra symbols down the spine
Geometric · Back · Mixed · Photo
A woman seen from behind, sitting with her bare back to the camera, shows a column of seven circular chakra symbols running down her spine, each with a different ink colour and a central sacred symbol. A black ornamental lotus with curling linework and a small bird sit on the upper right of her back near the shoulder blade. The plain pale wall and carpet keep the focus on the tattoos, with the image lit softly and the colours clearly separated.

The stair of Ostrell Hall had seven landings, and on each one hung a lamp of a different colour, because old Queen Sefa had wanted the climbing to be easy on the eyes. Her grandson Tobin had been given the job of lighting them each night, and he had never once reached the top before the oil ran low.

The lamplighter's book gave the order: red at the foot, then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet under the roof. Tobin knew it by heart. What the book did not say was why the seventh lamp was never lit by anyone but the queen. One wet autumn, when Sefa had gone to the coast with a fever, he climbed alone with a taper in his teeth and a brown wren riding on his cap, a bird that had followed him from the kitchen yard for three days.
At the red lamp the wren sat still. At the orange it hopped to the rail. By the time he reached the violet, it had flown ahead and was tapping at the high window, where a dried lotus stem had been pressed between two panes of glass for a hundred years. Tobin set the taper to the wick, and the flame climbed the glass until the old stem glowed like a hand held up to the light.
The queen recovered in spring. She never asked who had lit the last lamp, and Tobin never told her that the wren came back every night after that, always to the same ledge, waiting for him to climb the stair one more time.
