Seven chakra lotuses down the spine
Fine line · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A bare back is shown from behind, with seven lotus-style chakra symbols in a vertical line along the spine, each slightly smaller toward the lower back. The linework is thin and uniform, with the petals and centres outlined rather than filled. The ink is dark grey to black on skin in soft natural light, and the background shows a window with a sun-shaped suncatcher and hanging glass beads.

The sea had taken two boats from Porthkerris in the winter, and the widow Anwen Pascoe had taken it upon herself to light the lamps every night the fleet was out. She strung seven of them on a line from the harbour wall to the chimney of the net loft, with brass bells at the ends so the wind would tell her if the line had come down.

Her son Tom went out on the Morwenna with six others the morning the glass turned, and his mother watched the sails until they were specks past the point. Seven boats had gone out before the weather, and seven were meant to come home. Each night she trimmed the wicks, smallest at the far end where the water was calmest and largest nearest her door, and said the names of the crews aloud over the ringing of the bells.
On the ninth night the wind came round to the south-west and the bells rang all at once, hard and wrong. Anwen climbed the loft ladder with a fistful of matches and found the smallest lamp swinging clear of its hook. She set it back and the flame held. Out past the point, a single light was moving steadily towards the mouth of the harbour, low on the water, and then another behind it, and then the rest, coming in slow and dark-hulled under the moon.
Tom was last. He tied up with his hands split and grinned at her from the gunwale, and she laughed at him for being so slow, and the lamps went on burning all night because neither of them could think to put them out.
