Ski themed sleeve on upper arm and forearm
Realism · Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
A full sleeve covers the upper arm and forearm, showing a skier mid-jump above a snowy mountain range with pine trees. A chairlift with a silhouetted rider, snowflakes and a crossed ski and pole sit lower down, and a banner reading No Guts No Glory runs across the forearm. The shading is soft and realistic, mostly in grey and blue tones with some warm skin tints showing through.

By the second week of February the whole of Carrick Dale knew about Ida Sorensen's jump, and nobody had yet told her to stop. You work the chair at Knock Hollin for Mr Pardoe, who pays you in tea and sixpences, and every morning you watch her come up the lift with her long pine skis on her shoulder and the same grin she wore at the bottom of the hill.

She wanted the cornice above the far gully, where the wind folds the snow into a lip like a breaking wave. Pardoe had painted a sign on the hut board that week, NO GUTS NO GLORY, in red letters that ran down to the sill, and she read it aloud twice before laughing and asking you to hold the chair for one more run.
On the Thursday the cable snagged at the top. You had the brake under your palm and the chair swinging over nothing, and you could see her above you on the crest, the sun behind her, a dark shape against a sky so white it hurt the eyes. She did not wave. She tucked and went, and for one long breath she hung over the drop like a mark pulled across a page, and then she was gone into the glitter below.
When the lift was running again you walked up to the cornice. Her poles stood in the drift, crossed at the handles, and beside them a dropped glove was already filling with snow. You carried them down the path and hung them on the nail beside the sign, where they stayed all winter, until she came for them in March, grinning, with her arm in a sling.
